Is Web 2.0 overrated?

X L asked:

Web 2.0…Ajax…XHTML….

This is the current design/programming trend in website design/architecture these days. Sites like TechCrunch, Mashable, 9 Rules and even Yahoo Answers use Web 2.0 principles.

The basic rules are:
1. Clean look
2. Less is more when it comes to Flash
3. Gradients are good.
4. Rounded corners are good.
5. Visible tables are bad.
6. Java applets are bad
7. Animated GIFs are bad.

There’s much more to it but that’s the gist.

What do you think? Do you like Web 2.0?

    Is Web 2.0 overrated?.
Personally, no. I dont’ know think it’s overrate and I don’t believe Web 2.0 is only about simplicity, nice and intuitive… I believe Web 2.0 is a fascinationg field in a quite fascination era for Internet & Computig. Web 2.0 is not about AJAX, XML, Ruby, or any other technology. It is a paradigm and a process, not a tool.
Web 1.0 was making ‘computer’ and ’systems’ communicate better and Web 2.0 make communication between people better.
I honestly feel the phrase “Web 2.0″ is also horribly misused by many but is the next-gen on computing things.

There is a big confusion about what is Web 2.0. Web 2.0 has nothing to do with visual presentation of the sites.

Web 2.0 is about sites that allow their users to become relevant by letting that contribute content and services of interest of other the site community users.

The use of certain design patterns common to some sites of the Web 2.0 is a mere coincidence. Same goes to the use of AJAX. AJAX can help providing a better navigation experience, but that is not what makes Web 2.0
